PCDGC Academics and Curriculum for Online Learning

Providence Country Day School Global Campus offers a high school curriculum for online learning that prepares students for higher education while reflecting the school’s core values: commitment and participation, diversity, hard work, honesty, intellectual curiosity, respect, and teamwork. Students are taught to be engaged citizens with a curriculum that encourages intellectual growth, ethical behavior, and community participation. Classes have high academic standards and empower students to grow with confidence as they develop skills and explore interests. The goal is to develop a global community of lifetime learners with the knowledge and skills to be leaders in university classrooms and in our global society.

Our courses are designed for international students while maintaining the same academic rigor of Providence Country Day School. Students are instructed in core subjects in grade-appropriate English by teachers with expertise in the subject matter and teaching international students online. Our courses use a combination of synchronous and asynchronous learning components, so students are exposed to native English-speaking teachers and have opportunities for collaboration with classmates around the world.

PCDGC’s online curriculum teaches skills that are needed and valued by U.S. universities and global employers:

  • Creativity
  • Communication
  • Virtual collaboration
  • Critical thinking
  • Goal setting
  • Reflection and discussion
  • Cultural Compentency

Blended Online Learning

The PCDGC online curriculum utilizes a blended learning approach. Students receive up to two weekly synchronous instruction sessions and teachers are available for additional assistance via email. Our teachers work with our school partners and families to monitor students’ progress and ensure that students are staying on track. Whereas many online education programs may offer asynchronous-only instruction, PCDGC believes that the best approach is one with face-to-face interaction, accessible technology, and multiple teaching tools and methods.

  • Teachers are trained in the online format and are skilled in effective practices for online learning.
  • Use of integrated learning management system for seamless digital experience, with all coursework available at a single login.
  • Students and teachers are prepared for online format, with Internet access and necessary technology.
  • Numerous opportunities for student-teacher and student-student interaction built into classroom activities.
  • Regular check-ins with instructor to answer questions, monitor progress, and facilitate the learning experience.
  • Courses are designed for online learning, with multiple forms of instructional resources and teaching tools, such as print, videos, simulations, and digital interactives that allow students choices in how they access new information and how they demonstrate their learning.
